IPL 2026: Washington Sundar’s Jaw-Dropping Six Stuns Everyone in GT vs SRH Showdown

NEW DELHI: Washington Sundar of the Gujarat Titans delivered one of the most astonishing sixes in IPL history during Tuesday’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The incredible shot sent the crowd into a frenzy and prompted a standing ovation from the Titans’ dugout.

The moment arrived in the 19th over, bowled by Eshan Malinga. Sundar, almost seated on the ground, whipped a low full toss on middle and leg over deep mid-wicket for a flat six, leaving spectators and players alike in disbelief.

The Gujarat Titans cruised to an 82-run victory, climbing to the top of the IPL 2026 standings. After half-centuries from Sai Sudharsan (61) and Sundar (50) powered GT to 168/7 on a tricky surface, Kagiso Rabada (3/28) and Jason Holder (3/20) tore through the SRH batting lineup, securing a fifth consecutive win for the 2022 champions. Chasing 169, SRH crumbled to 60/7, with Rabada striking early and Holder tightening the screws after the powerplay. Hyderabad was bowled out for just 86 in 14.5 overs.

Sudharsan anchored the innings with a composed 61 off 44 balls, including five fours and two sixes, while Sundar’s 33-ball 50 featured seven fours and that stunning six, proving vital in lifting GT to a competitive total.

Reflecting on the innings, Sundar said, “I was just focusing on reading the situation. The wicket was quite different from other games, so I wanted to understand what shots could work here. It was important for one of the set batters to play till the end.”

About the remarkable six, he added, “I was trying to get that shot right previously, but they were nailing yorkers really well. Happy it worked the other way.”

Discussing his approach, Sundar stated, “The plan was not to think too much. Until the 17th or 18th over, I didn’t want to go all out. In the last couple of overs, I tried to hit as many boundaries as possible, playing shots that suited the wicket. Things went very well today.”

When asked about facing Rabada and Siraj in the nets, he chuckled, “I don’t think I should give away too much, but I have to be disciplined and watch the ball closely, expecting a couple of loose deliveries to capitalize on.”

On defending 168, he remarked, “It speaks volumes about our team and the setup. We prioritize playing good cricket regardless of conditions. We’ve done that pretty well this year.”
