Striker Castillo left the pitch with a deep gash on his leg after a challenge from Operário’s Pedro Vilhena during Fluminense’s 2-1 victory at the Maracanã on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred in stoppage time. Castillo anticipated the ball and won the duel, but Vilhena arrived late, coming over the top and dragging his studs from the Argentine’s shin to his thigh, leaving a long cut. The referee showed Vilhena a yellow card.
Castillo fell in significant pain and received medical treatment on the field. After the final whistle, the striker was visibly frustrated with the punishment given to Vilhena and approached the officials to show the bleeding on his leg and protest.
Back in the Maracanã dressing room, he received further medical attention. A photo from the scene shows the striker lying on the floor with a pained expression.
Fluminense returns to action on Saturday, facing São Paulo at 7 PM local time in the Brazilian Championship.
