Russian coach Igor Shalimov has weighed in on a controversial incident during the 35th round of La Liga between Barcelona and Real Madrid (2-0). In the 53rd minute, Barcelona defender Eric Garcia caught Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham in the face with his elbow inside the penalty area. Referee Alejandro Hernández Hernández did not award a penalty.
Barcelona secured a 2-0 victory over Real Madrid, with goals from Rashford (9′) and Ferran Torres (18′).
“It’s not a penalty. There was a hit to the nose, but the Barcelona player didn’t see the opponent,” Shalimov said, speaking on a broadcast.
The Catalan club clinched the Spanish championship with three rounds to spare. Barcelona leads the La Liga standings with 91 points, while Real Madrid sits in second place. This marks Barcelona’s second consecutive league title.
