Vincent Kompany was asked again about the Champions League clash between PSG and Bayern Munich ahead of his team’s Bundesliga match against FC Heidenheim 1846 on Saturday at 15:30. The coach admitted that what happened at the Parc des Princes did not surprise him—a match that became a showcase of attacking football and will be long remembered for its open play and final 5-4 scoreline.
“What happened in Paris is logical. Of course, I would like to keep a clean sheet, that is always our goal. If you logically analyze what happened in the match, it was to be expected. In the end, we only want to win, and we use the means we have to do so. It makes sense. The only thing is to have the conviction that you can win that way. We don’t want to lose, and that’s what makes us strong. PSG were not going to change the style that earned them the Champions League,” he said in his media appearance.
“The match against PSG was obviously very intense, and the anticipation for the return leg is very high throughout Munich. My job is to focus on Heidenheim, which is what I try to do every day,” he continued.
Kompany also acknowledged that Lennart Karl could be ready for the second leg against the French side. “He’s not there yet, but there are still possibilities for the Paris match. I am cautious about his situation. Most of the time, when you get injured for the first time, you don’t even know exactly what it is. Lennart had never been injured before. Usually that means he will recover quickly and fully. An experienced player knows his limits. Lennart will do everything possible to be ready for the match against PSG, but we have to respect how the body works,” he concluded.
