Real Madrid President Florentino Perez stated during a press conference that a fight between club players is bad enough, but it is even worse that the incident was made public. Perez’s comments were reported by AS.
“A fight is terrible, and it’s even worse that they made it public… This is not the first time two players have fought. They fight every season because they love to compete. In this case, it’s the first time it’s been talked about, and we know who told this story,” Perez said.
On May 8, Marca reported that Real Madrid midfielders Federico Valverde of Uruguay and Frenchman Aurelien Tchouameni got into a fight in the locker room after training. Valverde fell, hit his head, and was hospitalized. Reports indicated he received stitches, and the club held an emergency meeting and launched a disciplinary investigation.
However, Valverde himself claimed that he accidentally hit his head on a table during an argument, received a cut, and was taken to the hospital. He emphasized that Tchouameni did not hit him and urged not to exaggerate the incident. Nevertheless, the club reported that Valverde was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, which would keep him out for 10 to 14 days.
Later, Real Madrid’s management fined each player €500,000. The club stated that “the players expressed complete remorse for what happened and apologized to each other.”
